We have been using our speed oven for a couple months. Once installed it was making funny noises -- turned out the magnetron was dangerously broken. It was fixed under warranty, but it was scary seeing just how badly burned it was. Pros: No need for a countertop microwave; serves as a 2nd oven; cooks well. Cons: The turntable does not turn on automatically with the microwave function. For the life of me I can't understand why you wouldn't want the turntable on. It means we have to remember to press an additional button or the food will be half hot half cold. The buttons and menu is very confusing. It's not clear which is microwave, which is convection. Unlike the full size convection oven you can only "smart convect" with the speed oven. This means you'll type in 425' but it might only go up to 399'.

Loved the online installation instructions. The only issue I had was that because the door opens down, it interfered with the lower drawer on my cabinet. Luckily I am handy and was able to retrofit the cabinet so the microwave now looks completely built in. Overall, a really nice microwave/convection oven combo.

How long should they last?

Did a kitchen rehab ~8+yrs ago and went w/ KitchenAid appliances including this microwave. Worked great until today when my son went to make popcorn and all heck broke loose. Sparks were flying and smoke was pouring out of the microwave. Not sure if this is an end of useful life issue or some other failure. Does not appear safe to use going forward.

I have another model KHMS2056SSS4 which your online customer service does not recognize as your model! This was a very expensive model and unique since it is the only built to fit into the large space. It is about 4 years old now, hardly used by us and is very unreliable. It turns itself off, if you use the fan when steaming on the stove the micro will eventually stop and lose all power, or will not work when you want to heat. It shows faults that are not correct when not working - door open, etc. A lot of money for a very unreliable unit.

Love that it is our microwave, but also going to be an oven addition for holiday dinners. Haven't had the chance to use the convection part of it yet, but had the most amazing bag of popcorn the first time I used it!! Cooks very evenly and has some sort of sensing built in to where it just "knows" when the popcorn is is ready. Have heated up multiple items in it for about a week now (just moved in), everything seems to be in working order. Pretty quiet operation and the modern look is perfect in our new kitchen!

Great product but be prepared to SPEND$$$

This unit was a replacement and its a great unit. The instructions are impossible to figure out so be prepared to youtube a lot. When buying this unit be prepared to spend some extra $$$$ on items like a required trim kit $150, custom mounting platform $100, Electrical hook up $65, and installation $75 (PC Richards). This unit was replacing the model before it and Kitchenaid decided to change the dimensions. So now our custom counter island had to have "custom work" and took weeks. We will don't have the trim kit ( that is required) and its been over a month. The trim kit is on back order so we have a big gap under the unit. At $2,000 I am not sure why they nickel and dimes you with petty kits. I would stick with Wolf or this unit or save some money and try the samsung. Unless you are ok with spending $2k and then another $300 on nonsense that no one tells you about until the day of delivery.

I bought this KitchenAid Convection Microwave in November and spent over $1400 with installation. The microwave has the most uneven heating I have ever experienced. Food is frozen on one side and crisp on the other! I have a qualified tech looking at the unit as I am writing this and he contacted KitchenAid and they told him that there is nothing wrong with the unit and said it is customer error. The tech sees my problem but KitchenAid is still blaming it on user error. I've owned a number of microwaves in my life which we under $500 and have never had anything like this. Save your money and buy a cheaee microwave which works better! Very Unhappy!

I cannot even begin to express our frustration at buying this product. We have been in a new home for less than six months and have been unable to use the oven because the door will not shut. We had to hold our leg up to the microwave to heat up coffee, never got the chance to use the oven as it is intended. Called for service going on two months now and still have a NON functioning 2200 microwave. The technician keeps calling out sick. This is the third time they have called out 'sick' - the first time - so that's actually four appointments we called for service and although we gave the correct address to Kitchen Aide and the service, the tech went to the wrong address and refused to come to the right address - approximately ten minutes from where he/she was. Kitchen Aide is HORRIBLE and we are still as of July 5th, still waiting to use the oven because of all the sick techs and the lousy service from Kitchen Aide.

I bought this microwave along with other Kitchen Aid appliances for my new kitchen. It is installed in my island. So far, we are cery happy with it. It was a lot more expensive than a regular under counter microwave. It has a little trouble with popcorn, but everything else seems to be at standard cooking times. It also converts to a convection oven; this the larger price tag.

I purchased this microwave/convection oven as part of a complete kitchen renovation. It has been a lemon since day one. The service technician has been out 3 times so far and it is not even 10-months-old. Service call #1 - Fan sounds like a jet engine and doesn't work half the time. Service technician told me that it is really not meant to be a convection oven despite it being sold as a convection & microwave!!!! He told me simply not to use the convection feature and then I would not get error messages. (I am not kidding!!!) The convection is why I bought the KitchenAid unit and paid $2,000 Service call #2 - Fan still not working and they "fixed" it with some new parts. Service call # 3 FOUR PROBLEMS...for a 10-month-old Problem #1 Fan still not working. Problem #2 Convection does not work and errors. It shuts down and you get scrambled error messages that are not legible on the control panel. Problem #3 Gives a "shut door" error message even though the door is shut tight. Problem #4 When I turn it on to cook, the timer counts down, the light inside is on, the fan does not run, the turntable is spinning, but it does not cook. NOTHING. It looks like it is working but zero heat and no fan running. Now they want to send the technician to basically rebuild my $2,000 10-month-old, barely used microwave/convection oven with a bunch of spare parts which the technician could not confirm would be new parts and not rebuilt or reconditioned used parts.

I just had this installed Two weeks ago. I tried using the convection mode but seemed to take forever to heat up. I gave up and used a toaster oven. I had more time the second attempt and set the temp at 400 degrees. After 20 min the oven just shut off when it reached 360. I restarted but it still was not working properly. I called customer service and the earliest they could make a service call is 12/26. Stay tuned for further developments.

This microwave is easier to use than any I have ever installed. It is large, powerful and the touch screen is perfect. The "ON" button is not hidden in a slew of buttons that are never used, instead it is clear and separate. Installation was easy and there is no $500 trim kit to buy.

Fan very noisy and won't stop running

I bought this unit to replace my old KitchenAid microwave/convention oven (KBMC147). As soon as this unit was installed and the installer started the test, I could notice how much louder the fun was than the prior one. Then after we run a 15 seconds test, the fun didn't go off. The standard beep after each minute still worked, but with the fan still going and at the loud noise the beep is barely noticeably. After letting the microwave cool down, I run another test for 15 seconds, and decided to wait and see if the fun would stop. It took it 5 minutes to stop after 15 seconds, and those are 5 minutes with a loud fan running. This seems like a very bad design to have the fun continue working, or one must be standing next to the unit to hit cancel each time you use it. When I called KitchenAid they told me it was normal for the fun to continue running for 5 minutes. And the noise, it is just like that, a noisy fun. I am not only not recommending this to anyone, but I am already sharing my experience and telling my family and friends to stay away from KitchenAid. I was a fan with all my kitchenAid appliances until now. I won't replace with the same brand any of my appliances when that time comes.

Fan Noise out of the box

Bought this microwave December 3rd week 2016. As soon as my technician installed and turned on, the fan started making loud noise. I called support and due to lack of resource during vacation, it was not fixed till today. I got a tech appointment today and he fixed it. It was noticed that during manufacturing, the fan screws were not tightened. Wouldn't there be a Quality control for the products that are manufactured ?

I've had this microwave for less than a month but I already love the way it heats food consistently throughout so that the food seems to stay warmer longer. This is a great design that matches our KitchenAid appliances. The features and performance are top notch. The included convection accessories are very good quality. I like that the tones and display are the same as the double oven. Microwaves often look like the afterthought of the kitchen, but not this one. The only issue was that the KitchenAid badge was not centered on the oven door. Hopefully, warranty service can resolve that. It is off center by about 1.5 inches! How this one ever passed QA on the assembly line is surprising for a premium brand. Other than that, it is a tremendous unit and I would purchase it again.

This was the suggested replacement for my old kitchen aid microwave. First off it did not fit the cut out area in the cabinet and after spend over 2000.00 dollars for this unit we had to get a trim kit costing an additional 150.00 dollars. The how to use books are not helpful and vague. My old one had stick on guide as you opened it that helped you find the correct power for various foods for cooking , reheating etc. this one is extremely lacking. I also hate the digital read out. Too much black. Also hate the red trim on the handle. There was no store in Denver, Co that I could see this replacement and I had to order only seeing the picture. Did popcorn in it and it performed poorly.

The Kitchen Aid was a great choice both in design & looks to performance. Cooking is accurate and very quiet. The face of the microwave fits in with any stainless kitchen.

This microwave has so many features and so much power that I think I could do almost anything with it! What's more, it came with some special dishes and parts that allow me to be even more creative in the kitchen. It is quiet and powerful, and I LOVE it!

This cooks with convection, microwave, steams, crisp (haven't used yet). The only complaint is that it doesn't micro and convection cook like my others have.

I bought this microwave a month ago to replace the JennAir and absolutely love it! Not only does it look beautiful, it's features are too many to list. I particularly love the solid build and feel, the capability to use as a convection oven. I love the fact that the fan continues to run and cool down the interior to prevent moisture build up after cooking. Very versatile!

It has been installed for less than a month and had 2 service calls to fix the turn table. They replaced the motor - did not work. They replaced the circuit board (controller) - did not work. I told repairman no more repairs. I cannot keep staying home or adjusting my schedule for a product that should be replaced. I do expect a replacement.
